2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5

Are you in the midst of a hybrid vs. electric cars conundrum? Which type of automobile would be better for your Asheville commute? Did you know that there are both quality Hyundai hybrid vehicles and Hyundai EV models for sale right now at Hyundai of Asheville? Both types of cars have their unique strengths. So, we’ve put together a hybrid cars vs. EVs comparison below to help you choose.

Hybrid Cars vs. EVs – Keeping Them Charged

Did you know that there are two kinds of hybrid vehicles: one that needs to be plugged into a charging station or outlet to stay charged and one that does not need to be plugged in? All EVs, on the other hand, need to be plugged in from time to time to charge the battery. This requires planning if done at public stations and can take a significant amount of time if you do it from home. This is why some busy Hendersonville drivers have opted for conventional hybrids.

Hybrid Cars vs. EVs – Charging

  • Electric cars must be charged, and can take significant amount of time.
  • Plug-in hybrids need to be charged for the electric motor to work, though the gas engine will take over if the battery dies.
  • Hybrids do not need to be plugged in as the electric motor is charged by the gas engine. However, they are significantly less fuel-efficient than plug-ins and EVs.

Hybrid vs. Electric Vehicles – Fuel Economy

Fully electric vehicles make the for the least expensive Black Mountain commute as they do not use gasoline. Of course, there is some cost in regards to electricity, but not as much as paying for gas. Hybrid cars use gasoline, but are more fuel-efficient than conventional cars. Plug-in hybrids use both gas and electricity but are even more fuel-efficient than other hybrids.

Hybrid vs. Electric Vehicles – Saving at the Pump

  • Electric cars – no gas costs, but incur costs from electricity usage
  • Plug-in hybrids – some gas and electricity costs, but significantly more fuel-efficient than either hybrids or combustion gas engines
  • Hybrids – use gas, but typically less gas than a conventional gas-driven vehicle.

Hybrid vs. Electric Vehicles – Sticker Price

Hybrids like the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, Elantra Hybrid, and Sonata Hybrid are all priced in the $20,000s. Plug-in hybrids tend to cost a little more, but are significantly more fuel-efficient. Fully electric vehicles usually cost the most, but some, like the Kona Electric, are priced within reach of most households.
